Hi all! It's been a long time but I haven't forgotten about you! I just wanted to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it!) and I hope your day is full of great food and great company.
There are a lot of new and exciting things ahead for Curvy Life Styles so stay tuned and stay Fabulous!
Actress and talk show host Mo'Nique has had a busy three nights of award ceremonies. Not missing a beat, this fabulous Diva represented full figured women beautifully. Fearless as usually, Mo'Nique knocks down two tired myths: 1.) that curvy full figured women shouldn't bare arms and 2.) that women with a full face shouldn't pull their hair back. From chignon to gown, Mo'Nique is flawless and her style an inspiration. What do you think? Love her looks or not so much? Let me know!

Last night I came across the new reality series "One Big Happy Family" on TLC. If you haven't heard of it, the show follows the Coles, a family of four each weighing between 300 to 400 lbs.
Watching the show I felt both angry and inspired. I was angry for the disrespect that I felt the producers showed towards the family. The preview of someone falling out of a chair that we are left to assume broke under her weight. The scenes around the table as the family ate (a lot), the close-up of the powdered lips eating funnel cake and the complete shock that this family felt when they were told that they were obese. I don't think there is a plus size person out there and especially ones who claims to refer to themselves as the "fat family", that doesn't know that they are overweight.
But what inspired me was that this family (despite what I feel was a highly exploitative step by producers to make a buck) genuinely seemed to be happy with who they are as they are. They don't hate or beat themselves up because they are fat.
There is a lot of love in the Cole family. It is apparent in each interaction between them, and when faced with the reality of impending health issues they made a decision to do something about it. As a family. Not because society told them that they should. Not because they wanted to fit into a mold of what people find beautiful or acceptable. They decide on a change for the love and health of the family.
One Big Family has a six episode run and I think it will be interesting to see the journey this family has decided to embark on. Even more interesting will be if TLC will choose to portray it with dignity or as one big happy joke.
So what do you think? Does "One Big Happy Family" portray plus size people negatively? Take the quiz!
