Style and comfort hit the red and white bulls-eye in Target's Plus Young and Contemporary line of clothing for the plus size woman, also known as Target's anticipated new line, Pure Energy.
For plus size and curvy women, searching for clothing that is fresh, young and in their size has traditionally been a study in futility. For those shoppers who have successfully found youthful plus size fashion, finding hip clothing for their curvy bodies often came with a hefty price tag.
Obviously Target has recognized the demand (and potential profit) of stepping up their plus size offerings to a fashionable level that should have other retail stores and traditionally non-plus size clothing stores taking note.
I've been curious about Target's new plus size venture, Pure Energy, not quite certain of what to expect having been let down with poor choices and questionable sizing from other retailers. While shopping Target's website recently, several dresses and tops caught my eye. They were more appealing to me than Target's normal selection in that they were younger, fresher. With the cute factor and the price topping at $29.99 I easily could see myself in several of those dresses this summer. But were these items labeled Plus Young and Contemporary really Target's new Pure Energy line? That question sent me out to investigate.
As much as I love Target, my local store has been decidedly unkind to it's curvy customers. After many disappointments on lack of selection, I rarely shop in store for clothing. Imagine my surprise when I stopped in the plus section and confirmed that yes those adorable dresses were in fact from the Pure Energy line!
Pressed for time and with a sweet yet impatient husband in tow, I sadly didn't have the opportunity to try on what I'd seen. With the majority positive reviews on the Target website however, and outstanding pricing for the curvy girl on a budget, Target will hopefully have a hit on their hands.
Only time will tell.
I've included images of a few of the dresses that stood out for me. If you want to read what reviewers have to say, click the images to be taken directly to the Target website.

This dress gets rave reviews on the Target website. In fact it's so popular that they are, as of this posting, out of stock online! However I did see it in store so they are still available. It seems the only complaint about this dress is that the straps are a little too big for some but because they are removable it shouldn't be to much of a problem. We love versatility!

I love blue so this definitely got my attention. Not only does it look incredibly comfortable, but I can easily picture dressing it up with a cute pair of silver sandals, chunky earrings and an armful of bangles.

This dress is perfect for my round body type and since I'm not afraid of showing off cleavage, it definitely speaks to me. In store it was marked down considerably, I'm not sure if it was an error on my local Target's part or not. I recommend looking in store if you are considering making this dress yours.

Do you notice a common theme with these dresses? They are all sleeveless. Curvy girls don't have to be afraid to bare their arms. However, it is an area that a lot of plus size women have issues with. I would have liked to have seen some of these dresses with a cap sleeve for a bit of coverage for those curvy women who are a bit bashful when it comes to baring arms.
